Cerro Gordo County Online contains (PDF) documents and forms that require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print. Adobe Acrobat Reader is software that allows you to view, navigate or print Portable Document Format (PDF) files.

In addition, recorded documents found in our Document Search application display in PDF form.

All PDF documents on our website are referenced with the following suffix: (pdf).

Adobe Acrobat Reader software is available for free. You can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader here.

Browser Tips

Cerro Gordo County Online is designed using W3C compliant CSS and XHTML. By using these web standards, we ensure accessible web pages.

Printing Problems

If you are experiencing problems printing the pages from our parcel search, and you are using Internet Explorer 7, the issue is likely in a browser setting. Click on 'Tools', then 'Internet Options.' Click on the 'Advanced' tab, then scroll down to where you see the Printer Icon, with the word 'Printing' next to it. Ensure that there is NOT a check in the 'Print background colors and images' checkbox. If there is one, remove it, and then click on 'OK'.

Maps

Our interactive mapping program is designed to work using the Internet Explorer browser.

In order to maximize screen space for our maps, pop-up windows are used extensively. Our pop-ups DO NOT contain advertisements; you must disable pop-up blockers in order to utilize the full functionality of Cerro Gordo County GIS interactive maps.

Sometimes pop-up windows will open behind the main map window. If you don't see a window you expect, check the task bar on your screen for the open window - click on it to bring it in front of the other windows. You might also want to consider closing every popup after you read it.

Our maps are designed for 1024 by 768 pixel screen resolution. If a lower resolution is used, some information might not be displayed properly. Make sure you have your screen maximized to view the full display.

Navigation Tips

If you know of the name of the department that provides the service you are seeking, check out the Departments link. Otherwise, try 'Services', which provides an alphabetical listing.

At the top of the page, located directly under the horizontal navigational bar (with Home | Departments | etc) you'll see a 'path'. This gives you an indication of the path that one can take to get to the page, describing the department, division or service. It's just one way of many to get to a specific page, but should help you in determining what department provides the service that you are interested in.

The left side of the menu provides some different ways of accessing the same kinds of information as you can find at the top.

When in doubt, Search! The search feature will help you find pages of importance to you quickly and efficiently.

Searching our Website

Only search for what you need. While you could search, for example, for "Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors" to get information about the board, you may only need to search for "board of Supervisors" or even just "supervisors" and still get a reasonable range of results. The more complex the search term, the more likely you are to exclude something unintentionally.

The search box uses a "pattern-match" system to find information. This means that it will look for the series of letters, numbers, and symbols you enter, in its entirety, to show up anywhere in the text of the page. If it finds the pattern at least once, the page is added to the results. If not, the page is left out.

The pattern match doesn't break words up, so if you searched for "law library", only pages where those two words showed up together would display. Law alone, library alone, or even a page where both words appeared, just not together, would be excluded.

The search feature searches all pages - including PDF documents. It DOES NOT search databases (for example: parcel inquiry, or recorder search).
