Behr honored for service to Lime Creek

MASON CITY - The Lime Creek Nature Center recently recognized its volunteers with a dinner and ceremony and held the annual meeting of the Lime Creek Nature Center Foundation.

 

Charles Behr of Mason City received the "Friend of Lime Creek" award for his many years of service as a dedicated weekend volunteer for Lime Creek Nature Center.

 

The "Friend of Lime Creek" award was initiated in 2004 in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Nature Center. This award was created to honor individuals, families, and organizations for exceptional efforts in the area of conservation education and support of the Lime Creek Nature Center's mission.

 

Behr routinely leads the Lime Creek volunteer corps with the most hours logged each year and often covers for other volunteers when they can't work.

 

The following volunteers were recognized for providing 20 or more hours of volunteer service to the Lime Creek Nature Center over the past year: Virginia and Merrit Balmer, Charles Behr, Cal and Carolyn Braastad, Fran Clough, Pete Koenigsfeld, Kay Larson, Al Libby, Barbara MacDougall, Kathy Nelson, Reva Pedelty, Alice Phillips, Lisa Pleggenkuhle, Michele Robinson, Gabriele Robinson, Bill Rowland, Maxine Sanberg, Jim and Ruth Smith, Shirley Smith, Al Swale, Louise Swanson, Tom Thoma, Deb Thomas, Delores Tracy, Virginia Ward and Theresa Weaver.

 

Volunteers received their choice of a Lime Creek t-shirt, field guide or lapel pin.

 

We are very grateful to all of our volunteers for whatever time they are able to give us. The Lime Creek Nature Center simply could not carry out its environmental education mission without them.

 

During its annual meeting, the Lime Creek Nature Center Foundation elected Jeff Pilz, Gwen Smith and Dr. Harsha Jayawardena as new board members, and elected the follow individuals as officers for the upcoming year: Kay Larson, president; Deb Tesar, vice-president; John Groninga, secretary/treasurer.

 

Remaining board members are Michele Applegate, Dave Hansen, Alice Phillips, Lisa Pleggenkuhle, Bill Rowland, Maxine Sanberg and John Rowe.
