The Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board wants you to explore

Too often we tend to take for granted what we have in our own backyard. Enjoying our great natural resources is no exception. People often travel considerable distances to partake in outdoor activities, when in fact we have some outstanding opportunities here in Cerro Gordo County.

 

The high cost of gas certainly provides an incentive for planning more outings close to home. And if one considers the beautiful natural resources we have locally, there is really no need to travel far. The Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board (CGCCB) manages park areas, wetlands, woodlands, prairies, ponds, river corridors, and roadsides that are available for the public to enjoy.

 

The CGCCB has a series of 21 informational fliers that highlight specific recreational opportunities on these areas, including: camping, canoeing, dog training, fall colors, fishing, hunting, native prairie, woodland and prairie wildflowers, trails, geocaching, wildlife viewing, and winter activities. We call this promotional effort Recreational Experiences Close to Home.

 

These hand fliers are easy to file in a desk or glove compartment for easy access. We believe they will be very useful tools to help citizens enjoy recreational activities in Cerro Gordo County.

 

To assist citizens even further, we are offering occasional informational sessions at Lime Creek Nature Center that will highlight various recreational activities that are in session. Our first informational meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 19, at 3 p.m. at Lime Creek Nature Center. At this meeting we'll discuss the various camping opportunities available in the county.

 

We'll also distribute our campground fliers, each of which include a detailed map of the area, a list of amenities for campers, a list of recreational opportunties on the site, and a detailed description of the park.

 

Our Recreational Experiences CLose to Home fliers can also be downloaed from our internet Web site at: www.co.cerro-gordo.ia.us (click on Outdoors), or picked up at the Lime Creek Nature Center, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
