Take Care of the Trails, Please

Skiing trails are open at Lime Creek Conservation Area

Article written by Todd M. Hansen, park manager, Lime Creek Conservation Area and used with permission from theGlobe Gazette, published on Saturday, February 10, 2007.

MASON CITY - Cerro Gordo County Conservation Board grooms nearly eight miles of trails to accommodate both diagonal stride and skate-style skiing when conditions permit. CGCCB would like to inform all Lime Creek Conservation Area users of trail guidelines.

Hikers, dog walkers, and other winter trail users are encouraged to use the Quarry Lake Trail on the west side of the area. This trail is only packed to facilitate a hard surfaced snow trail.

If non-skiers and/or pets are to use any of the "groomed" cross country ski trails they are directed to walk to the far right of the groomed area and to not walk in the grooved channels set for the classical or diagonal stride skiers. Skiers with pets are also directed to keep pets from walking/running in groomed area. (All pets must be kept on a 6-foot leash.)

The ski season is very short in north Iowa and the staff of the Conservation Board work hard to maintain the quality skiing experience. To maintain trail opportunities, it will take cooperation of all park users. If you have any qustions regarding trail use or skiing conditions contact the conservation office at (641)423-5309.
