House File 2751 was signed by Governor Vilsack on May 8, 2006. The legislation provides that former members of the armed forces of the United States who were honorably discharged and performed at least 18 months of military service or who performed less than 18 months of military service and honorably discharged because of a service-related injury are now eligible for the military service property tax exemption regardless of the time period in which the military service was performed.
The legislation applies to claims filed by July 1, 2006 for an exempton against taxes payable in 2007-2008.
